Happy Friday! We are getting super close to the 100th day of school which is a huge milestone for kindergarten! We will be having a big kindergarten wide celebration on January 21st. To celebrate we need a little bit of help from you! We are asking for a few snack items to help us complete some of our 100th day activities. You can sign up with the following link: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Ub0YyYmCLlrtNkNHi0LWmG1owSvNlSQSJz9zMmy3GfA/edit?usp=sharing Please have all supplie to school by January 17th. There will also be an optional assignment for students to design a 100th day of school shirt! If you and your child wish, have them make a shirt with 100 things on it. They can make a shirt with 100 buttons, stickers, pom poms, anything! There are also tons of ideas online. If your child makes a shirt, have them wear it to the 100th day of school on January 21st.
Also, check your child's folder for their report card. The report card envelope will also contain information about iStation. Please sign the outside of the envelope. Keep everything that is inside the envelope and return the signed empty envelope to school in your child's folder.
Reading: We have hit the ground running this quarter in our reading groups since coming back from break! We are continuing to work on retelling stories with characters, setting, and key details. We are spending a lot of time learning about the "Silent Magic E." We are working on deciding if words need a Magic E when we are writing words.
Writing: We have started a brand new writing unit! We are learning how to write "How To" books. This week we are working together to write a book about how to build a snowman. When we write How To books, we write what materials we need and what we need to do first, next, then, and last.
Math: We have wrapped up our geometry unit this week and have started a new unit. We are reviewing counting and identifying if quantities are more, less, or equal to another to review and then moving into addition and subtraction.
Science: We are very excited about starting our new weather unit because it means that we have our very own weather journals! So far we have learned about how to use our senses to observe changes in weather. We have also talked about measuring temperature with thermometers. We even did a small experiment to learn if black or white shirts keep us hotter or cooler.
Field Trip: If you would like to join us on our field trip to Marbles, please send me an email ASAP! Please make all field trip payments by January 17th.
Scholastic Books: If you are unable to make it to the book fair but still would like to purchase books from Scholastic, you can visit scholastic.com. They have some easy readers that your kids can practice reading at home and some are even $1! If you purchase books from this site, please use our class code (PH4BG). When you purchase books with our class code, our class can earn free books! If you order books, please send me an email so I can complete the order to send to our school.
Education Galaxy/Dreambox Login: We have been able to figure out how to get the kids logged in to Education Galaxy at home! If you go to the MES website and scroll down to the bottom of the site, there is a blue box titled student links. Under that heading click on WakeID for students. After that enter your child’s username and password. Their username and password are both their student ID number. After your child enters their login information, click on the Education Galaxy or Dreambox button. Let me know if you have any trouble logging in.
